Best Dressed in 2008

It’s time for another top. This time, however, it is about best dressed in 2008. Who do you think managed to be BEST dressed?

While other actresses may have balked at this Givenchy giant ruffle gown, Natalie Portman embraced the statement style for an appearance at Cannes in May.

Thandie Newton is a fashion chameleon, who never shies away from a fashion risk.

In an outfit that would have made Carrie proud, Sarah Jessica Parker flew the flag for British fashion, wearing a pistachio green Alexander McQueen prom dress and a Philip Treacy hat. The vertiginous green headpiece featured butterflies, a green rose and what appeared to be an acorn cup.

Gwyneth Paltrow showed off her most daring look, a miniscule lace dress, at the Iron Man London premiere, paired with her favourite accessory, a pair of vertiginous heels.

Oozing class in a divine Valentino Couture gown with dramatic pleated back detail, oversized corsage and floating train, the stunning Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko more than proved her Bond girl credentials.

The corsage-embellished style was stunning, but it was the oh-so-chic up-do that made me love Keira Knightley’s outfit.

Gossip Girl’s very own Blair Waldorf , Leighton Meester scores as many fashion hits off screen as she does on. Like her alter-ago, she clearly has a penchant for designer labels, making her a regular on the New York front rows and influencing a host of outfit choices. One of our favorites is this lovely lemon yellow Giambattista Valli frock, worn to a network party in August.

Jessica Alba mastered maternity style, and made hers one of the best dressed of the year, covering it in a flowing Marchesa gown and Cartier diamonds for the 2008 Oscars.

Heidi Klum’s best look of the year – the girl can do no wrong! Always flawless, she pulled out all the stops for February’s Oscars, with a silk taffeta, floor-length couture gown by John Galliano and Stuart Weitzman shoes. Simply amazing!

Charlize Theron has worn this dramatic Dior dress, which she playfully teamed with leopard print peep-toes for the Paris premiere of Hancock in June.

So who did you admire most?

End of the Year Tops

One thing I love about the end of the year being so close- apart from Christmas and receiving presents :) – is the fact that there are a lot of tops, like best dressed in 2008, worst dressed, best/ worst movies, best/ worst red carpet events and so on.

But worst fashion disasters in 2008 is mostly among my favorites. So searching for different fashion don’t s  ……

What on earth could have persuaded Mischa Barton to wear those baggy-crotched trousers, that sickly floral bodice or that diabolical over-the-shoulder bag to the Event to Prevent benefit in May?

A good girl gone bad indeed. Rihanna managed to make herself appear 10ft taller and wider in this ethnic-inspired gown at Clive Davis’s Pre-Grammy Awards Party in Beverly Hills.

Lace hot pants under stonewashed denim shorts? An off-the-shoulder top with an oversized metal chain? I didn’t like Agyness Deyn‘ s outfit too much.

The moth-eaten top looked almost as old as Cher, and the bin bag skirt would be a environmentalist’s nightmare. Don’t you agree?

Yes, you are seeing correctly, Mischa Barton did wear this to the Vanity Fair bash during Milan Fashion Week in September.

Kylie Minogue may well have been going through a post break-up crisis, after her split from Olivier Martinez, but there is never an excuse for dressing up as a terrifying Swedish milkmaid.

If Jessica Simpson wants to fuel the fire about pregnancy rumours, this deeply unflattering dress-come-cardi is definitely the way to go about it.

Having a sister in the public eye should have given Solange Knowles a few tips on what not to wear when you’re on the red carpet.

Victoria Beckham boasts one of the sharpest fashion senses around, but sometimes that it’s all a bit try-hard.

Agyness Deyn showcased not only her sometimes amazingly weird sense of style, but also her knitting skills at June’s Graduate Fashion Week.

Mary-Kate Olsen dressed in this oversized Missoni jumper dress and beyond ridiculous Marc Jacobs velvet headband.

Paula Abdul certainly has a sense of humor when it comes to fashion. She wore this tacky terror to the High School Musical 3 premiere in LA in October.
