I felt for a long time that my blog was missing a male voice. So, I have asked my friend George Verdes, a huge rugby fan and player to write a post for my blog. He has written below his view on the 6 Nations T-shirts! And obviously, I want one now! You can find him on his Facebook page where he writes about Afro music.
February-March of each year means Six Nations Rugby Championship (England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales).
Alongside the sport itself, the event is an opportunity for media and marketing related industry from the TV rights to manufacturers of sports equipment or those providing banking services to be involved in this event.
Each team in the tournament has a contract with a big name in the sports industry and every year a new model / design is released. By far the most spectacular are the t-shirts. The t-shirts have evolved over time as technology and textile industry have evolved. They were cotton tailored initially (at the beginning of the last century) and now they are made from combinations of polyester fiber, wool and Lycra.
The Rugby jersey in the pop culture is mandatory a striped polo collar type model. But, at the national teams level this rule is not applied. The shirt is printed with the logo of the rugby federation from their respective country, the sponsor’s name and player’s number. It should be noted that each team has a game kit for home matches and a completely different one for matches played away.
Check out the 2015 collection of t-shirts for the six teams of the 6 Nations event. I like most the new model that England team is wearing. In fact they have a new sponsor. Having canceled the contract with Nike they are now in partnership with Canterbury. However the universe of the rugby equipment is very large and you can find every model at the teams’ clubs. From the classical striped ones to the pink shirts ( belonging to Stade Français Paris) or in all possible colors (especially in the southern hemisphere where rugby is more popular than football).
